About Us
When Jerry and I were blessed with our beautiful baby boy, Myles Jeremiah, in 2015, I was eager to purchase all the cute "boy" clothes I could find. To my surprise, selections of items without the customary monster truck or bulldozer adornment were not readily available. Other items I felt made him look like a miniature man – not the look I was going for. I found myself always having to look at several sources to find what I wanted IF it was even possible. I always thought a "one-stop-shop" with nontraditional boy clothes would be great but as a new mom, I didn't feel I had the time to pursue it, so I abandoned the idea.
Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, my family has spent many days and hours together sheltering-in-place. Amid constantly decluttering, ordering groceries online, and raising a self-proclaimed ninja toddler boy, I revisited the idea of an online store. Did COVID-19 give us more hours in a day? Well, I asked Myles what he wanted to name the store and he emphatically said "skunk." Now, I have not mentioned that my kid ninja is also obsessed with skunks. He owns skunk plush toys, skunk socks and bowties, skunk tees, and skunk books. He loves YT documentaries about skunks. I was not at all surprised. He has never seen a skunk he doesn't like. My first thought was "oh no!" but I realized I was imposing my adult sensibilities on him. My reaction was based on the "offensive" characteristics of skunks. Myles, however, sees them as cute, furry animals with distinct colors that have a fascinating ability to spray predators if needed. They also do a little dance before they spray. Myles's obsession with skunks may be weird to some but it reminds me how we should respect and celebrate the pureness of a child's heart and soul. It is important to protect that innocence because children love without judgment. Something that the world needs now. That is how SKUNK was born.
Thank you for stopping by our store. We hope you continue this journey with us and that you find something you like😊
